Works on paper 1990-1999

The small-scale abstract monochrome works on paper are usually entirely drawn with India ink, several however have additions of watercolor. The large-scale colored drawings use pastel and conte. “New Light in Autumn Gloom” and “Reluctance” include collage.

Exegesis: Installation

Stephen Solvy Fine Art: Chicago, Il/USA

Although I had the opportunity and privilege to witness the artistic process, the transformation of an ordinary room into a wondrously fantastical other-world intimated the workings of a supernatural force. What incantations had the artist invoked to manifest the disembodiment of time and space?
— Stephen Solovy (Excerpt from Exegesis)

This initially took the form of an installation at Stephen Solovy Fine Art in Chicago. The walls, floor and ceiling were lined with handmade paper to which were attached collaged zoomed-in xerox fragments culled from small ink drawings like the ones displayed higher on this page. The sculptural forms are constructed of wrapped chicken-wire to which more collaged fragments were glued. The central sculptural pedestal supported a book - “Exegesis” which isolated on separate pages key motifs from the installation. This prototype was then used as the basis for a limited edition (100 copies) artist’s book, published by Stephen Solovy Fine Art (see Publications page).
